 Beyond Just Good Medicine

IMG_5996.jpg

Riverwood Hospital is pleased to have Dr. Kathryn Schrader joining us while Dr Hazanow is out of the office. Sandy and Kathryn have been friends and colleagues for 30 years. They worked together at VCA Hospital in Oakland in the 1990’s and now provenance has delivered them both to our wonderful city!
Dr. Schrader is a graduate of Colorado State School of Veterinary Medicine, following which she completed a residency in Los Angeles. She then entered private practice and has spent time in Las Vegas, the Bay Area, and then to Chico in 2010.
Dr. Schrader is skilled at urgent/emergency care as well as ongoing well-care and optimizing pet health. In addition to providing care for companion animals, Dr. Schrader spends time working with our area’s less fortunate feathered and furry fauna. She works with Bidwell Animal Rescue and rehabilitates a variety of local wildlife that finds itself down on its luck. She has fostered across the spectrum from Magpies, Jays, and Crows all the way through more earthbound creatures like our beautiful yet underappreciated population of opossums.
Kathryn is also a local expert in the husbandry and care of camelid species, and is shepherd to her own small herd of rather amicable alpacas. She can be seen yearly at the annual Alpaca roundups and provides on site veterinary services and advice for the show’s fibrous participants.
Dr. Schrader and Dr. Hazanow honestly enjoy each other’s company and are looking forward to keeping Riverwood Hospital’s practice running smoothly for our clients while Dr. Hazanow recovers from her surgery.

Dr. Dane Whitaker and Dr. Sandy Hazanow first met 25+ years ago when Dr Hazanow  was filling in at a practice in Menlo Park where Dr. Whitaker worked.  Years later, he joined Dr. Hazanow at her practice in San Francisco, Seven Hills Veterinary Hospital. At about the same time they both served on the board of Pride VMC as sequential  presidents.

He went on to get an advanced degree in public veterinary medicine at UC Davis and currently works as a veterinarian at the Marine Mammal Center In the Marin Headlands as helping other vets out as a relief veterinarian.
